How to Turn Your Old Router into Range Boosting WiFi Repeater

When our house went wireless a year or two ago, the process was very smooth. I only had to grab the new hardware once, and my entire family could get online just as easily as the old landline I had previously.

Unfortunately, as our household has grown over the last year or so, the range has become a bigger issue. Some of us have placed our router in places where there is no signal. Many of us have moved furniture around our rooms, which has somewhat limited the distance from the router to the phone. And most of us have realized that we are often downloading content onto a family laptop and then watching it at another relative's house. This is because the signal strength isn't the same as it once was when we were still using our old landline. Thus, for all of us, the router has become something of a necessity. But more than that, a well-placed and functional wifi signal has become a necessity as well. So, I set out to find a way to turn our old router into a means of boosting our current wifi signal. Few points are as:

Choosing a wireless router:

While there are many router brands and models out there, I chose to purchase my router from a local online store, using a wifi range extender to boost our signal. Unfortunately, it wasn't easy to choose my router as it was the only wireless range extender in the product's lineup. We also needed to find something that would be compatible with the older iPhone models. Thankfully, I eventually came across a review that listed reviews from over 50 Amazon customers and determined that the router was indeed compatible with the iPhone 4, iPhone 5, and 5C.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the only thing that I needed to know before purchasing the router. For one, as I mentioned earlier, we were planning to turn our old router into a range extender. But we also needed to purchase the router that we would use. This was more of a challenge as the old router was different from the one that is currently available. I purchased my router from Amazon, but there are many other options for the same or similar brand. For this roundup, I will be focusing on the Netgear EX6110 AC1200, the wifi range extender that is compatible with the devices that we purchased.

While the router comes with instructions, it is best to be familiar with the process before beginning. The process is largely the same regardless of the brand of the router you are using. The first step is to install the software onto your router. Once that is done, download and install the extender software. After that is done, you should see an app similar to the one below. During installation, make sure you follow all of the steps precisely. I got a little carried away and accidentally overwrote the installer. So be careful, and watch out for overwriting. Once the installation is complete, you should see an option for turning the extender on. When you click this option, you should be able to see the extender in action. By clicking "Turn Off Extender," we are forcing the router into the extended mode. The app will then automatically turn on your extender. When you see the extender in action, you can then disconnect the extender if you wish.

App and setup:

Once the router is turned on, we can now go to the app. The app allows you to set up the extender in a few different ways. There is also an advanced setting that you can access if you wish. It is a bit complicated but worth it. When it comes to setting up your extender, there are two steps. First, connect the extender to your phone. The app will automatically prompt you to do this. While this is a necessary step, you don't need to do this step. Once the extender is connected to the router, you'll need to go into the Advanced settings. Click on the button labeled "Connect extender." You can then open the small window that shows up and select which network you are trying to get onto.

Note that once you select your network, the app will change the network name on your iPhone.

This step is important as it ensures that the router and the extender are pointed towards the router. Now, the app will prompt you to select the password for the extender. After this, you are ready to click "Connect." The app will then show you a guide with helpful tips. Once it shows you that the extender has connected, you can then disconnect the extender. When you are done, you can then click "Connect." This step will go through the same process. However, in this case, you will be connected to a different network. You will now be able to pair your phone with the extender using the "Network Name" that you previously selected. The process is similar to pairing your iPhone with your computer, but this takes a bit more time. This is where it gets interesting. After pairing the device, you will see a number in the upper left-hand corner. Click on this to bring up your options. You will be able to see a list of your devices. From here, you can configure which devices are connected to your network. For example, you could add or remove your iPhone from your wifi network. Check this out for the perfect configuration.

Overall, the installation process was quite straightforward. And, once you are done, you can choose to "Apply Changes." This will allow you to set your device upon a network of your choosing.

Reliability and speed:

During our testing, we were able to get the speeds that we were looking for. In addition, we were able to get a strong signal throughout the house. However, we were unable to find a strong signal from the extender in the basement. This is likely due to the different wiring layout down there.

Overall, the Netgear EX6110 AC1200 is a solid device. It certainly isn't the fastest or the cheapest router on the market, but it is a capable device that is easy to set up. The ability to gear a strong wifi signal throughout the house is huge. The only downside of the device is that it isn't a pretty router. It is on the bulky side, but it isn't that noticeable once you are connected to the extender. It isn't a perfect product, but it is a good router. If you are looking for a great device that offers good speeds throughout the house, the Netgear EX6110AC1200 will do the trick. It has a few weak points, like the lack of a pretty router, but this is a great router if you can overlook that. This is a bit bulky, but this is something you can live with. If you don't like the looks or the router's speed, you can pick up one of the best wireless extenders and live the life. In short, if you are looking for a great router but you can't deal with the ugly router, this is the right product.

What is Netgear EX6110 AC1200?

Netgear is a wireless networking device that you can use to connect computers and other devices to your wifi network. The company also sells several accessories and even offers a 2-year warranty.

Netgear has a fairly simple design. There is a light and a power button that you can find on the front. The back of the device contains all the ports. There are two USB ports, ethernet ports, and a power connector.

The Netgear comes with several great features. One of these is an integrated antenna that will give your devices better reception. The extender is also really easy to set up. Just connect it to a wifi network, and you are ready to go. Another great feature is the ability to turn off Netgear whenever you don't need it. All you have to do is plug the extender into an electrical outlet, and you can switch it off.

During our setup, it took us about ten minutes to set up the Netgear. The process is simple, and it is a great setup for a home user. The entire process only takes about five minutes.

Overall, Netgear is a good product. It works well and is easy to set up. The only thing we don't like about the product is that it isn't a pretty router. But, the unique design works well, and it helps when you don't have a good wifi signal in certain areas of your house. So, if you are looking for a device capable of improving the signal in certain parts of your home, this is the right product for you.

Overall, the Netgear is a solid router that won't let you down. It isn't the fastest or the cheapest, but it works well and will give you a good wifi signal in any part of your house. When you are looking for a wireless extender, the Netgear EX6110 AC1200 is a great choice.

.WPA2 Encryption:

The WPA2 protocol is the most common wireless network protocol and offers strong security. The Netgear EX6110 AC1200 uses WPA2, but there is no password for this router. When you connect your devices to the network, it automatically encrypts them, so they are secure. For this reason, you will want to make sure your security settings are updated on your router. To update your security settings, go to Settings>Network & Internet>WiFi>WPA/WPA2. You will also want to make sure you have the latest firmware for your router. Overall the Netgear is a good router, but we are not big fans of the design. The design is really ugly, but there is no denying the speed and performance of the device. If you are looking for a nice looking router that offers great speeds and strong security, then the Netgear EX6110 AC1200 is the right product for you.

Is The Netgear EX6110 AC1200 The Best Wireless Router?

The Netgear EX6110 AC1200 is a great router. There are several great features, but the one we like the most is that it offers WPA2 encryption. If you are looking for a great router and you can't deal with a dull-looking router, then this is the right product for you.
