If you are on the market for a new smartphone, why not consider buying a refurbished iPhone
Renewed or refurbished devices offer a few unique advantages overused or even brand new gadgets.

Why buy a refurbished phone

Whatever your reason may be for purchasing a new device, there are a few reasons why you should strongly consider purchasing a refurbished one.

Lower price

What's better than a new phone? A phone that looks and functions like a new one for a lower price.
This means that if you have a fixed budget or need a new gadget for emergency reasons, you are sure to find a device that meets your needs.

Longer lifecycle

Some people think that brand new phones are better than used or refurbished ones because they believe that phones have a short lifecycle.

On the contrary, phones have a longer lifecycle than most people think. And if the parts are replaced, the lifespan is essentially reset.

Eco-friendly choice

One unique advantage of buying a refurbished device that you might not even be aware of is that your purchase can help save the environment.

Electronic gadgets contain precious metals. And if you opt to buy a refurbished phone, you are making a conscious choice to help reduce the need to mine these metals.

Before you buy

Convinced that a refurbished iPhone is the right phone for you? Here are a few things that you need to do first before buying one.

Find a reputable seller

The great thing about buying a new gadget today is that as a consumer, you now have more options available for you, including places to buy devices, from brick and mortar stores to online shops and peer-to-peer marketplaces.

However, when you are investing your hard-earned money in an iPhone, one of the most critical steps that you need to do is to find a reputable seller, especially if you are planning to buy online.

Check a seller's online reputation before making a commitment. Ideally, your chosen store should have good reviews. Stay away from merchants that have plenty of negative reviews.

Compare prices

How much are you paying for the device? With patience and some sleuthing, you can get the average cost of the specific phone model you are trying to buy and know whether you are overpaying or not.

However, don't let the price be the only deciding factor in your purchase. Spending a little more money for a product sold by a reputable seller offers the advantage of having peace of mind compared to buying a gadget from a total stranger.

Make sure that the phone is unlocked

If a phone is still locked, you won't be able to use the device until you go to your network to have it unlocked.

Furthermore, a locked device will still have the data from its previous owner.

Check the battery

Usually, it is hard to gauge the current state of a phone battery immediately. You may need to charge your phone once or twice to know its actual state.

One way to skip that step with an iPhone is to go to ‘Settings’ and then to battery health. A phone with optimal battery life should have at least 95 percent battery health. If the battery health is between 80 and 90 percent, you may notice some decrease in the overall battery life. If the battery health is below 80 percent, the battery may need to be replaced.

Other things to check

Insert your SIM card into the phone and activate it. Try making a call to check the SIM card, microphone, and earpiece.

Next, check the WiFi connectivity. You can either connect to a public WiFi or use another mobile device as a hotspot. Go to a specific website to check if the device connects to the Internet.

To test the camera, open the app. Be sure to check if all the cameras are working. You might also want to record a few seconds of video and play it back.

To check the display, look at the resolution and colors of the images. As for the digitizer, swipe the home screen from one edge to another. You should also pull down the notification center. The page or notification center should not jump back.

For the gyroscope and accelerator, you will need to open the measure app to check both. Go to the app and select ‘level’ before rotating and turning the device.

Consider getting a warranty

If the device looks good and everything is functioning right, then you can purchase it.

If the seller offers a warranty, be sure to get one. Sometimes, unexpected issues can go unnoticed and crop up unexpectedly. A warranty ensures that you will be able to return or get the device fixed should any issue arise after buying it.
